"Thalasso" means "sea" in Greek. The use of sea water for therapeutic aims goes back to the Antiquity. Modern thalassotherapy was born in France in the 20th Century. Thalassotherapy is a global concept covering a wide range of care and services dedicated to health, wellness and beauty in a direct connection with the sea environment: Sea water, seaweed and sea climate.
Sea water
Sea water has remarkable properties. It is very rich in vitamins, minerals and trace elements in very similar proportions to the human blood plasma. It also contains microorganisms that produce antibiotic, antiviral and antibacterial substances. Sea water is heated (32 °C in the pool, 34 °C to 37 °C for other cures) to optimise exchanges with the body. Hot sea water allows minerals and trace elements to pass through the barrier of the skin: the ions penetrating into the body will selectively wander and fix themselves in the organs where they are most needed. Once the body recharges itself with minerals and trace elements, all body functions are rebalanced.
